Lotshuset on Huvudskär

Waxholmsbolaget has decided not to traffic Huvudskär after 2020, we will only be able to accept bookings for those who can arrange their own transport to and from Huvudskär.

Booking information can be found further down the page.

History

Once upon a time, Huvudskär had a thriving fishing industry, with cod and herring as the main catches. Simple fisherman’s houses were erected, and in 1646 a chapel was also built, although it was later moved from Ålandsskär to Lökskär. The Russian Invasion in 1719 put an end to all that, completely destroying this fishing village. In the 19th century, a lighthouse was built on Huvudskär, and customs and pilotage staff lived on the island in big, new buildings – Lotshuset (Pilot House) and Tullhuset (Customs House). Today, the Archipelago Foundation owns these buildings and rents out rooms to the public.
