Excellent for recreational activities

The Archipelago Foundation acquired northern Utö in 1973 from the then mining company Ställbergsbolaget. The Foundation has constructed bathing areas and resting places, laid trails and cycle paths, and pursued active, conservation-based forestry. The nature reserve offers scope for a number of different recreational activities. For bathing, there are child-friendly bathing spots with shallow, sandy beaches (Barnens bad), and wonderful rock bathing (Rävstavik and Södra Sandvik), equipped with dry toilets and permanent barbecue areas.
