Utö is one of the most complete destinations in the archipelago. There is a hotel, two youth hostels, a noted restaurant, an exciting history and a great deal more to see and discover.

Do not forget to visit the amazing mines and learn about their history. Ask an archipelago guide and learn how people lived here in the past.

Ranger’s tips

Kroka on the northern part of Utö is my favourite spot! Not many people go that far up, and a walk or bike ride from the jetty is the perfect outing.
The old buildings and surroundings up there give a feeling of time standing still, and offer you a glimpse of how the archipelago used to look. My favourite month out here is September – it’s really lovely here then! Lovely and peaceful, and the water’s still warm. The warm water also means that autumn reaches us a few weeks later out here.
