Nature marked by the most recent Ice Age

The bedrock in this reserve is one of Sweden’s oldest Achaean rock formations; with hill chains that were formed 1,500-1,800 million years ago. Själbottna and Östra Lagnö did not rise above sea level until the Viking Age. Both areas have been marked by the kilometre-thick ice sheets that covered Scandinavia during the most recent Ice Age.
