Sandy beaches, rocks and pine forest

The limestone slabs of Ålö host the richest variety of flowers in the archipelago. Another feature is the sandy areas. Storsand is a beautiful, horseshoe-shaped cove with a sandy beach and sand dunes on the southeastern side of the island. A mica quarry at northern Ålö glitters from afar on sunny days.

The landscape of Rånö is dominated by flat rock, sand and pine forest. Ängsholmen is also part of the reserve but is considerably lusher than the main island, with many old oak trees.
