The Archipelago Foundation is leading the EU project Green Islands, which is being conducted in Sweden, Finland and Estonia, working to improve the environment in and around the Baltic Sea.
There are often limited resources for dealing with sewage and refuse, for heating homes and providing access to water in the archipelago. It is the aim of the project to inventory these resources and suggest solutions that are more environmentally sensitive. Information about costs and technical solutions will be drawn up, together with information about how to apply for grants.
Green Islands wants to remind people that there are alternatives, such as sources of renewable energy, and to increase interest in awareness of recycling in the archipelago. The website www.greenislands.se invites everyone to register to receive a monthly e-newsletter with the latest information about the project.
